the laptop in to a tablet.\u00a0 However, in this configuration, the keyboard is pointed downward, making the device awkward to grasp or carry, and with the downward-facing keyboard, it will suck up crumbs and dirt from any surface on which it is placed.<\/li>\n<li>The &#8220;v-fold&#8221; is just stupid, and is equivalent to the clam shell from a viewing perspective, so the v-fold adds nothing.\u00a0 HOWEVER, the camera is upside-down.\u00a0 So&#8230;. it&#8217;s useless for a video conference unless it corrects for that, which is ostensibly being portrayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The other major down side to having a laptop that transforms in to a tablet is the incredibly small screen.\u00a0 If I increase the display size to 125%, I lose too much screen real-estate.\u00a0 If I run with the default 100% display size, the text is uncomfortable to read.\u00a0 As a business laptop, the display really should be at least a couple of inches larger.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"keyboard\"><\/span>Keyboard<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s talk about the keyboard.\u00a0 The hideous keyboard, that was obviously designed by someone who has never actually USED a keyboard.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7704\" src=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Pwr-Button-600x242.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Pwr-Button-600x242.png 600w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Pwr-Button-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Pwr-Button-768x309.png 768w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Pwr-Button.png 976w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first problem I noticed was that the power button (upper-right), which doubles as the fingerprint reader, is uncomfortably close to the delete key.\u00a0 This is just terrible placement, and I have already confirmed that an accidental click, if forceful enough, will in fact shut the computer down.<\/p>\n<p>The second major problem is the function keys.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7705\" src=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Function-Keys-600x241.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Function-Keys-600x241.png 600w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Function-Keys-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Function-Keys-768x308.png 768w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Function-Keys.png 977w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As with most laptop keyboards, the function keys have a primary and secondary function.\u00a0 By default, the primary functions are related to sound and video &#8211; things like mute, sound volume, screen brightness, and switching to an external display.<\/p>\n<p>To access the\u00a0<em>actual<\/em> function key, you have to press the &#8220;fn&#8221; key while pressing the function key.\u00a0 For example, &#8220;F2&#8221; layout, because function keys are used for all sorts of useful things:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>Key<\/th>\n<th>Shortcut<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F1<\/td>\n<td>Help<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F2<\/td>\n<td>Edit text. For example, edit a shape&#8217;s text in Powerpoint, or a cell&#8217;s text in Excel.\u00a0 In file explorer, F2 allows you to edit a file or folder name.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F3<\/td>\n<td>Search<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Alt+F4<\/td>\n<td>Close current window<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Ctrl+F4<\/td>\n<td>Close current document<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F5<\/td>\n<td>Refresh (for example, in a browser, or e-mail)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F6 and Shift+F6<\/td>\n<td>Navigate to different parts of the active window<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F7<\/td>\n<td>Spell Check<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F10<\/td>\n<td>Access the menu in most applications<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F11<\/td>\n<td>Toggle full-screen<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>F12<\/td>\n<td>Enter debug mode in browsers.\u00a0 Open &#8220;Save As&#8221; dialog in Word and Excel<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>I learned to use productivity software in the DOS days before mice were completely common.\u00a0 Programs such as WordStar and SuperCalc pretty much required the use of hotkeys for navigation.\u00a0 Later, WordPerfect and Lotus (also before Windows) offered mouse support, but someone once taught me that your productivity drops when you have to switch between mouse and keyboard, so I have always been a keyboard guy, even after Windows came in to common use.<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;m not one of those people who mindlessly insists that &#8220;the old way is better&#8221;. However, I still assert that it&#8217;s faster and more efficient to keep your hands on the keyboard rather than switch back and forth between mouse and keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, to me, having the function key mode default to sound and video because some moron doesn&#8217;t know how to use the projector is very frustrating.<\/p>\n<p>But the salvation is &#8220;function lock&#8221;, right?\u00a0 RIGHT?\u00a0 \u00a0right?\u00a0 \u00a0&#8230;..right?<\/p>\n<p>NO IT ISN&#8217;T.\u00a0 Not on this piece of crap.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7716\" src=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Home-and-End-600x242.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Home-and-End-600x242.png 600w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Home-and-End-300x121.png 300w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Home-and-End-768x310.png 768w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Home-and-End.png 973w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>See&#8230;.here&#8217;s the problem.\u00a0 The special people who designed this keyboard mapped HOME and END on top of F11 and F12.\u00a0 So&#8230;if you enable function lock in order to get your function keys back, you lose HOME and END, arguably two of the most useful cursor control keys on the keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks later, I accidentally hit some random key combination and &#8220;SCROLL LOCK&#8221; was stuck on.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not familiar with SCROLL LOCK, it only typically affects Excel.\u00a0 The affect it has within excel is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Normal function:\u00a0 Arrow keys move the cell selection<\/li>\n<li>Scroll lock:\u00a0 Arrow keys pan the entire screen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So if you suddenly find yourself with SCROLL LOCK enabled and there is no scroll lock key, Excel is now useless.\u00a0 Fortunately, google came to my aid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7718\" src=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Unlabled-Functions-600x241.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Unlabled-Functions-600x241.png 600w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Unlabled-Functions-300x120.png 300w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Unlabled-Functions-768x308.png 768w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Unlabled-Functions.png 977w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You see, there are UNDOCUMENTED key combinations.\u00a0 As it turns out, I must have hit &#8220;fn+S&#8221;, which enables SCROLL LOCK, and pressing &#8220;fn+S&#8221; again disabled it.\u00a0 And there are others, but that&#8217;s beside the point.<\/p>\n<p>If you notice, the up and down arrows are have sub-labels, indicating &#8220;fn+up&#8221;=PgUp and &#8220;fn+dn&#8221;=PgDn.\u00a0 Page UP and Page Down.\u00a0 On a whim I tried &#8220;fn+left and &#8220;fn+right&#8221; and guess what???? HOME AND END respectively.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a good feature, but they DIDN&#8217;T LABEL THE DAMN KEYBOARD.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s still awkward to use, but at least it&#8217;s slightly less awkward than &#8220;fn+F11&#8221; and &#8220;fn+F12&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But clearly, ZERO THOUGHT was given to how this product would ACTUALLY be used.<\/p>\n<p>And, this isn&#8217;t the worst offender on my list of gripes about the keyboard.\u00a0 My biggest gripe is THIS key, right here.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7719\" src=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Copilot-Button-600x244.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Copilot-Button-600x244.png 600w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Copilot-Button-300x122.png 300w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Copilot-Button-768x313.png 768w, https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/7450-Copilot-Button.png 975w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MEET the COPILOT KEY!<\/p>\n<p>On a normal keyboard, this would be the menu key&#8230;
