{"id":1781,"date":"2015-02-18T18:15:24","date_gmt":"2015-02-19T00:15:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/?p=1781"},"modified":"2015-02-18T18:15:24","modified_gmt":"2015-02-19T00:15:24","slug":"how-to-order-whiskey-in-a-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justinparrtech.com\/JustinParr-Tech\/how-to-order-whiskey-in-a-restaurant\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Order Whiskey in a Restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you order a nice Scotch or Irish whiskey, you know that ordering it &#8220;on the rocks&#8221; waters it down.<\/p>\n<p>What do you do, if you want your whiskey chilled?<\/p>\n<p>At home, I use whiskey stones, but most restaurant servers don&#8217;t really understand that you want your whiskey cold, but not watered down.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a good trick to use at restaurants:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Order your whiskey neat (no ice), a second whiskey glass with ice in it, and some water<\/li>\n<li>Drink some of your water<\/li>\n<li>Empty the glass of ice in to the water (leaving an empty, cold glass)<\/li>\n<li>Pour the whiskey in to the cold glass<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>A Note on Drinking Whiskey at a Bar<\/h3>\n<p>Adding about a teaspoon of water to a standard 1.5 ounce serving of whiskey dilutes it just enough to bring out the complexity of its flavors.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Option 1<\/strong>:\u00a0 Order your whiskey neat, then add 1 to 2 ice cubes from your water glass.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Option 2<\/strong>:\u00a0 If you have a really good bar tender, order your whiskey &#8220;shaken&#8221; (implying: &#8220;shaken over ice&#8221;).\u00a0 A small amount of the ice in the shaker will melt and mix with the whiskey, but only a really knowledgeable bar tender will know what you&#8217;re trying to accomplish.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Option 3<\/strong>:\u00a0 If your bar tender walks on water, order your whiskey in a <strong>chilled whiskey glass<\/strong>, with two ice cubes.\u00a0 Only the most awesome of bar tenders will understand the complexities of whiskey, and have a chilled whiskey glass on hand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you order a nice Scotch or Irish whiskey, you know that ordering it &#8220;on the rocks&#8221; waters it down.
